Oxnard to Ojai and Rtn - 50 mi

This last Sunday morning I did a training ride to Ojai.  This is a nice ride because 40 of the 50 miles are on bike trails. This is very relaxing to me since I don't have to worry about traffic. The ride follows the coast for the fiest 10 miles and the turns north up to Ojai.  The elevation change is about 900 ft. It's a gradual climb for 15 miles. On the way back it's pretty much all down hill. I did the ride in a little over 5 hours with a stop in Ojai for lunch at Liberty Park.

Overview

The purpose of this blog is to document the planning and progress of my bike trip across America…Coast to Coast (C2C).  I don’t consider myself an avid cyclist and am doing this for the experience and adventure (read mid-life crisis).  It will also help me get back in shape and lose the 20 lbs. that I have accumulated over the last 30 years of sitting behind a desk.
My cycling experience is limited to mostly day trips with a few overnighters over the last 40 years.  This will definitely be a giant leap from anything that I have ever done in the past.  In preparation I plan on doing a number of local day trips and a few overnight test trips from my home in Oxnard, CA up the California coast.  Hopefully these test runs will give me a good idea of what I can expect on the big trip…or at least that I have all of the essential equipment that I will need.  I have already started doing some local rides and will continue to do them for the next few months.  The overnight test runs will be done early next year with the big trip planned for June 2014.
