About

The purpose of this blog is to document the planning and progress of my bike trip across America…Coast to Coast (C2C).  I don’t consider myself an avid cyclist and am doing this for the experience and adventure (read mid-life crisis).  It will also help me get back in shape and lose the 20 lbs. that I have accumulated over the last 30 years of sitting behind a desk.
My cycling experience is limited to mostly day trips with a few overnighters over the last 40 years.  This will definitely be a giant leap from anything that I have ever done in the past.  In preparation I plan on doing a number of local day trips and a few overnight test trips from my home in Oxnard, CA up the California coast.  Hopefully these test runs will give me a good idea of what I can expect on the big trip…or at least that I have all of the essential equipment that I will need.  I have already started doing some local rides and will continue to do them for the next few months.  The overnight test runs will be done early next year with the big trip planned for June 2014.

Well the planning for the trip is pretty much complete.  I am set to fly up to Seattle on 6 June and start my ride the next day.  I will be taking the Northern route that follows the Canadian US border.  The trip will conclude in southeastern Michigan where I will meet up with my family sometime the end of July.  My plan is to provide a blog entry daily, even if it's only how many miles I rode and my stopping point.  Hopefully I will have the time and energy to provide some highlights of the day and some pictures or videos.

This is the route I will be taking.

I have identified the charity to ride for as Brain Injury Center.  For people that would like to support my ride please donate to the Brain Injury Center by clicking the button to the right.
The Brain Injury Center (BIC) of Ventura County is the non-profit organization that works to assist brain injury survivors and their families with the enormous, life-long challenges they face.  BIC helps advise survivors and families on issues they encounter and how to cope with them.  The organization helps families connect with key services that might be needed, including medical, psychological, transportation, financial planning, lodging and educational.
BIC holds separate support groups for survivors and families in four Ventura County cities, organizes monthly social events, offers psychological counseling, provides workshops on key issues affecting survivors and stages the annual Ventura County Brain Injury Conference  --  one of the leading brain injury educational events in the west.  Most services are free.

I think I want to do the same thing one day! Good for you taking on this challenge! And I do bet that it is so nice to have John along - especially getting thru that snow day. Can't imagine biking thru that would have been fun. keep the info comin!!
